Calls for Citizen-Centric, Transparent Functioning by Officers.

Bhubaneswar, Jul 19: In a high-stakes meeting with registration officials, Odisha Revenue Minister issued a no-nonsense warning against unlawful practices within the department. He emphasized that officers engaging in illegal registration activities will face strict action—even after retirement.

The Minister said some officers have indulged in irregularities such as registering over 300 homes annually, conducting registrations outside their designated areas, and manipulating Aadhaar and photo records. Cases were cited where part-plot registrations were made despite official bans since 2014, and dead individuals were falsely shown alive in the registry.

Highlighting that retirement is no escape, the Minister confirmed that departmental proceedings have already begun against multiple officials, some even post-retirement. “No one is invisible. The Revenue Department is monitoring everything,” he said, urging officers to treat citizens as VIPs and themselves as public servants.

He reinforced the message that a 'people-friendly' office is the goal and discouraged attitudes implying superiority over the public. “Don’t aspire to be a big officer. Be a good officer,” he remarked, reminding officials that genuine public service begins with ethics and transparency.
