Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: In a major political development, over 100 leaders and workers from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Odisha’s Patna Assembly constituency joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday.
At the “Mishran Parba” (Joining ceremony) held at the BJP’s state headquarters here this afternoon, Patna Block Chairperson Veena Pani Nayak, along with several Samiti members, Sarpanches, ward members, and senior leaders from both Patna and Saharapada blocks joined the saffron party and expressed their trust in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP’s vision for a developed Odisha.
The new members were welcomed by BJP State In-Charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, who presented them with party caps and scarves. He emphasized that the BJP, under the double-engine governance model—strong leadership at both the Centre and the state—is gaining ground at the grassroots level.

✨Patna MLA Akhil Nayak, Telkoi MLA Dr. Fakir Mohan Nayak, State Vice President Biranchi Narayan Tripathy, State General Secretary Simanchal Khatei, and State Secretary Saroj Kar were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP MLA Akhil Nayak said that growing public faith in BJP government and declining confidence in BJD leadership are driving such transitions. The party aims to strengthen its organizational base in rural Odisha ahead of upcoming elections.
The induction of elected representatives and grassroots leaders is expected to boost BJP’s presence in the region and reshape local political equations, another party leader said.
