Puri, Jun 22: Tension gripped the Atharanala area of Puri following the death of a woman due to alleged medical negligence.

According to reports, one Pujarani Dalei (31) was admitted to a private hospital named Samashree Medical. However, she passed away following this, her husband, Rabindra, alleged that gross medical negligence by doctors and hospital authorities led to her untimely demise.

As news of the incident spread, relatives and local residents staged a road blockade, burning tyres and demanding justice. Some reportedly entered the hospital premises and confronted staff, leading to a volatile situation.

Senior officials including the City DSP, Additional SP, Kumbharpada and Sadar police officers, and the Puri Sub-Collector rushed to the scene to pacify the crowd. Despite their efforts, the blockade continued for hours.

In response to the serious allegations, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has formed a special inquiry team to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. The CDMO also visited the hospital to assess the situation firsthand.
