Berhampur, Dec 22: A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced at a private hospital, located between the new bus stand and Gate Bazaar in Berhampur.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage after the death of a patient during surgery, leading to the hospital being sealed by the administration.
According to reports, Vijay Pradhan (30) of Tumbagad village
under Jarada police station was injured in an accident two days earlier. After
receiving preliminary treatment at Tumba Medical, he was brought to Berhampur
for further care.

A staff member of private hospital reportedly persuaded his family to admit him there. On Saturday night, doctors at the hospital prepared him for surgery.
Family members allege that after anesthesia was administered, Vijay’s condition deteriorated rapidly. Instead of continuing treatment, hospital authorities arranged an ambulance and shifted him back to the Berhampur Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.

Relatives claim that wrong anesthesia led to his death and further accused hospital staff of forcibly obtaining signatures during the emergency.
Following the post-mortem, the deceased’s family and relatives staged a protest in front of the private hospital, demanding strict action against the doctors and compensation for the loss.
The demonstration drew public attention, with local representatives, including Berhampur MP’s delegate, joining the protest.
In response, authorities evacuated patients from the hospital and sealed the premises. The incident has sparked demands for stringent measures against the hospital management and medical staff involved.
