Sambalpur, Apr 9: In absence of motorable road connectivity, a woman patient was carried on a cot by family members and locals for at least 2 km to reach the ambulance in Rairakhol area in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Tuesday.
According to sources , Sumitra Parekh of Belapani village under Jujumara block in Sambalpur district suffered from fever and her health condition deteriorated.
The family members informed the local health centre to send an ambulance. Subsequently, an 108 ambulance arrived, but it could not reach the village due to the lack of proper road connectivity. It stopped around 2 km away from the village.

✨The family members decided to carry the patient on the cot for 2 km to avail the ambulance.
From there, the ambulance took the patient to the nearby govt hospital for her treatment.
It is not an isolated case in the region. Several villages in the district lack all-weather motorable roads for which patients and expectant mothers are being carried on cot or sling to reach the hospital.
