Pathani Samanta Planetarium in Bhubaneswar Set for Revival, Says Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar, Aug 23: In a major push to promote space science and technology among students, Odisha’s Minister for Science and Technology, Krushna Chandra Patra, announced that budget estimates are underway for the revival of the iconic Pathani Samanta Planetarium, saying the restoration work is expected to begin soon.
Speaking at the second National Space Day celebrations held at the Odisha Space Application Centre, the Minister revealed that nearly 10–12 district-level planetariums across the state are either operational or awaiting inauguration. He emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure every district has a dedicated science project to inspire young minds.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to nurturing future scientists, Minister Patra shared that each year, 30 students from Odisha are sent to ISRO for educational tours and exposure to space research. These students visit space centres and gain valuable insights into space science and technology.

✨The Minister also stated that discussions are ongoing with the Union Minister to finalize further decisions for expanding space science infrastructure in the state. He reiterated the government’s vision to produce more scientists from Odisha and ensure that the youth are actively involved in scientific innovation.
During the National Space Day event, students from various government schools in Bhubaneswar participated in space-themed quiz competitions. Out of them, 45 meritorious students were felicitated by the Minister for their outstanding performance.
