Paradeep, Jul 8: In a focused crackdown on suspected illegal immigrants, police have detained four Bangladeshi nationals residing in a rented house in the Jurdaripada area under the Lock Police Station limits of Paradeep.
Sources in the department revealed that the individuals were taken into custody on Monday after receiving a tip-off about foreign nationals living covertly in the locality.
According to officials, the group allegedly arrived via the Sundarbans by water route and later reached Kolkata. They were then brought to Paradeep by an intermediary who arranged their stay in a rented house in the Jurdaripada slum colony.
Following the raid, the police conducted medical examinations of all four individuals and have currently placed them under monitored shelter while further inquiries continue. The administration is investigating whether more undocumented individuals may have entered the region through similar routes.
