Banki (Cuttack), Apr 7: A blazing forest fire broke out in the Sal forest located between Puincha and Khajuripada villages under the Banki Block in Cuttack district, Odisha, causing panic among locals.

The fire, reportedly active for over two hours, drew the attention of the Kalapathar fire brigade team, who swiftly arrived to combat the inferno.

Due to the inaccessibility of fire engines to the affected forest area, firefighting efforts primarily relied on traditional methods. Firefighters, armed with leafy branches, battled the flames alongside support from the Baideswar Forest Department staff. Together, they worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading further into nearby areas.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and the extent of the damage to the forest is yet to be assessed. Local residents are commending the swift actions of the fire brigade and forest department teams, whose coordinated efforts have brought the situation under control.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the area and have urged the public to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to prevent such incidents in the future.
