Bhubaneswar, Nov 19: Odisha’s Cooperative Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta has announced that paddy procurement mandis across the state will officially open from December 25.
The government, he said, is fully prepared to purchase paddy from registered farmers, ensuring smooth procurement operations this season.
Speaking to reporters, the minister emphasized that millers
have been directed to clear their warehouses to make space for the new harvest.
With paddy cultivation higher this year compared to last, the government
expects a larger procurement volume. “All registered farmers will have their
paddy purchased,” he assured.

In a significant development, the Odisha government has sanctioned ₹313 crore for the creation of 38 model mandis in the first phase. The tender has already been awarded to the Odisha Building Construction Corporation (OBCC).

In the second phase, 62 more mandis will be developed, with a long-term target of establishing 100 model mandis within two years. These mandis are expected to modernize procurement infrastructure, improve transparency, and provide better facilities for farmers.
Samanta also revealed that the Nigam Board has finalized key decisions, and an official announcement will be made soon after approval in Delhi. The government’s focus is not only on procurement but also on strengthening mandi infrastructure to support farmers and streamline the supply chain.
The minister reiterated that the state is committed to ensuring farmers receive fair value for their produce and that the procurement process remains efficient and corruption-free. With improved mandi facilities and strict monitoring, Odisha aims to set a benchmark in agricultural procurement practices.
This initiative is expected to benefit lakhs of farmers
across the state, providing them with assured markets and timely payments,
while also strengthening food security and rural livelihoods.
