Bhubaneswar, May 29: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will engage over 45,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)–2026 of the voters’ list in Odisha beginning May 30, officials said on Friday.
Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) R S Gopalan said the exercise will continue till June 28, with the final updated electoral rolls scheduled to be published on September 6, 2026. A total of 45,255 BLOs have been tasked with visiting households across the state to verify voter details through door-to-door enumeration.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that the electoral rolls are accurate, transparent, and inclusive ahead of the upcoming elections. BLOs will distribute and collect enumeration forms during their visits, helping identify new eligible voters while removing outdated entries.
Speaking at a press briefing, the CEO emphasized the importance of citizen participation in the process. “The cooperation of voters is vital to building a correct and transparent electoral roll,” he said, urging households to assist BLOs during verification.

Officials noted that while the revision is part of routine
electoral preparations, it carries particular significance given the scale of
elections scheduled in 2026. Odisha’s diverse electorate makes this
verification critical to ensure every eligible citizen is represented fairly.
