Cuttack, Jun 19: The Orissa High Court has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating sanitation and drainage conditions in Cuttack city, issuing a series of directives to ensure public health and hygiene.

The court emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent the spread of infections, particularly in the wake of the monsoon season.

During a hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) related to civic issues in the city, the court directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and the district health department to take urgent steps to keep the city infection-free.

The bench stressed the importance of regular drain maintenance and swift water drainage from waterlogged areas to prevent mosquito breeding and waterborne diseases.

The High Court’s intervention comes amid rising concerns over poor sanitation and water contamination in several parts of the city. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for July 3, by which time the authorities are expected to submit a compliance report.
