Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: Despite intensified police action, organised crime continues to rise in Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar, with new gangs surfacing and adopting violent methods to carry out offences, sources said on Sunday.
In a recent incident, Airfield police foiled a planned dacoity at Aryan Nagar, Sundarpada, around midnight. Six people were arrested while preparing for a large-scale robbery. Police recovered sharp weapons, liquor bottles, and chilli powder from the spot. Officials said the gang intended to terrorise locals by brandishing firearms and lethal weapons. The accused already face multiple cases across different police stations in the city.
Commissionerate Police officials admitted that such incidents highlight the growing trend of gang-based crimes in the city. DCP Jagmohan Meena noted that organised criminal groups are increasingly posing challenges to law enforcement, despite regular crackdowns.

Police said the rise of gang culture and violent crimes has created a serious law-and-order challenge, demanding stronger surveillance and community cooperation.
