Sonepur, Aug 19: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing anti-crime initiative Operation Garuda, Odisha Police seized over 7 quintals and 72 kilograms of ganja from a pickup vehicle in Subarnapur district.
The contraband was intercepted by Tarva Police while being transported from Kantamal in Boudh district to Balangir, based on intelligence inputs.
The vehicle, loaded with 773 packets of ganja, was abandoned by traffickers and their escorts upon spotting police presence. The swift action by law enforcement led to the confiscation of the vehicle and the entire consignment, although the accused managed to flee the scene.

✨Addressing a press conference, Superintendent of Police Narayan Nayak confirmed the seizure and emphasized the department’s commitment to cracking down on narcotics trafficking.
The bust is part of the broader Operation Garuda, launched on August 1, 2025, which has already resulted in the seizure of over 3,030 kg of ganja, 664 grams of brown sugar, and 63 firearms across Odisha.
The operation, extended beyond its initial timeline due to
its success, aims to dismantle organized crime networks involved in drug
trafficking, illegal arms, gambling, and excise violations. Police have
executed 3,643 non-bailable warrants and arrested hundreds of offenders,
sending a strong message to criminal elements statewide.
