Nuapada, May 3: A Maoist was killed following a fierce gun-battle with the security forces near the border area between Nuapada and Gariaband districts on Saturday.
According to reports, the gun fight broke out when the security forces were out on a combing operation. Meanwhile, the red rebels, who were reportedly hiding in the Raksapathara forest, opened fire on the security personnel.
In retaliation, the security forces gunned down a Maoist while others managed to flee from the spot.
Following the operation, security forces seized an SLR rifle along with other Maoist supplies from the scene.
In response to the encounter, police have intensified their search operations in the surrounding region to prevent further insurgent activity.
