One Killed, Over 20 Injured As Van Carrying Students To Republic Day Parade Overturns In Cuttack

The students were on their way to attend the Republic Day celebrations at Saranda parade ground near Ansupa Lake.

Cuttack, Jan 26: In a tragic incident, a Class X student died while more than 20 other students sustained injury as a pick-up van carrying them to a Republic Day parade venue overturned in Banki area in Odisha’s Cuttack district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Behera, a Class X student of Malviharpur High School under Banki police limits in the district.  

As per reports, around 24 students of Malaviharapur High School were travelling on a pick-up van to attend the Republic Day celebrations at Saranda parade ground near Ansupa Lake.

The driver of the vehicle lost control over the wheels following which the van overturned near a bridge at Malaviharapur, killing the class student on the spot and leaving others injured.

The injured students were immediately rushed to the Subarnapur Community Health Centre (CHC) and later shifted to Athagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital for their treatment. Eight of them were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition deteriorated.

After getting information, local police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
