Berhampur, Mar 10: An eight-year-old boy died and over 40 people were injured as a pickup van skidded off the Bankeshwari ghati met with an accident under the Digaphandi police station limits in Ganjam district this evening. 

While all the injured people were rushed to the Community Health Centre, Digapahandi, 10 of them were later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital because of their critical condition. 

According to the information, about 50 people belonging to Durubudi and nearby villages were travelling in the van when the mishap occurred. 

Police have reached the spot and started an investigation.
