On the Run for 3 Weeks, Police ASI Finally Lands in Odisha Vigilance Net
Odisha Vigilance Takes Nachuni ASI on Two-Day Remand in Bribery Case

Key Points

Odisha Vigilance arrested ASI Akshaya, posted at Nachuni Police Station, in a bribery case and secured a two-day remand for questioning.
Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha Police posted at Nachuni Police Station in Khordha district has been taken on a two-day remand by the Odisha Vigilance after being arrested in a bribery case.

The Vigilance department questioned the ASI and is conducting searches at multiple locations after taking him into custody. Officials are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in the alleged bribery case.

Arrest After Three Weeks On The Run
Akshaya was arrested after surrendering before a court, ending nearly three weeks of evading arrest.

According to a source, the case dates back to July 5, when a person approached Nachuni Police Station over a land dispute. The opposing party had also filed a complaint in the same matter. Akshaya, who was the investigating officer in both cases, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 each from both parties to settle the matter, amounting to a total demand of Rs 10,000.

Officials alleged that he accepted Rs 5,000 from one of the complainants.

Escaped During Trap Operation
After allegedly accepting the bribe, ASI Akshaya noticed the Vigilance team approaching. Taking advantage of the darkness, he allegedly fled the spot on a motorcycle, forcing the trap operation to fail.

The Vigilance department subsequently registered a case and continued its investigation. Fearing arrest, the ASI allegedly remained absconding for nearly three weeks before surrendering in court.

Following his arrest, Vigilance secured a two-day remand and has intensified the investigation to ascertain whether others were involved in the alleged offence.
