Agriculture / OMFED Hikes Milk Procurement Price by Rs2 per Litre, Over 3 Lakh Farmers To Benefit

Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: In a major relief for dairy farmers, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) on Tuesday announced a Rs2 per litre hike in milk procurement price, effective from September 11. The decision is expected to benefit over three lakh farmers across the state, officials said.

Farmers to Gain

The move comes amid rising costs of cattle feed, veterinary care, fodder, and transportation, which had left dairy farmers struggling. By revising procurement rates, OMFED aims to strengthen farmers’ livelihoods and encourage sustained milk production.

Government’s Stand

State Cooperation Minister Gokulananda Mallik said the hike reflects the government’s commitment to prioritising farmers’ welfare. He noted that the increase would improve the financial condition of dairy farmers and motivate them to expand cattle rearing and milk output.

Omfed Leadership

The announcement was made at a press conference attended by OMFED Chairman Kishore Chandra Pradhani and Managing Director Vijay Amruta Kulange. Officials emphasised that the decision was taken after considering farmers’ demands and prevailing market conditions.

The revision marks a significant step towards supporting Odisha’s dairy sector, ensuring better returns for producers while stabilising supply chains.
