Bhubaneswar, Apr 25: In a landmark decision, the Odisha government has officially granted National Park status to Similipal under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. A notification regarding the development was issued by the Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Department.
According to the official notification, all statutory procedures from Sections 19 to 26-A of the Act have been completed, and land-related claims within the notified area have been duly settled.
Exercising powers under Section 35(4) of the Act, the State has now notified the specific area as Similipal National Park, effective from the date of publication in Odisha Gazette.
Expressing gratitude, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and State Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia for their efforts in making this vision a reality. He emphasised that this recognition will amplify Similipal's unique identity on the global stage, attracting more tourists and promoting sustainable environmental conservation.
