Bhubaneswar, May 31: Bhubaneswar’s iconic Master Canteen Square is set to undergo a name change, as announced by Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

The decision aligns with the state government’s initiative to preserve and promote Odia identity, ensuring that historical landmarks reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Mahapatra emphasized that several places in Odisha still bear names from the British colonial era, and there is a growing need to rename them in a way that resonates with the state’s legacy and pride.

He revealed that the renaming process is currently under discussion, with authorities considering honouring a distinguished Odia personality through the new name.

The final decision on the new name will be taken by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The move has sparked discussions among citizens, with many welcoming the idea as a symbolic step towards reclaiming Odia heritage.
