This marks a significant shift in public perception, as government schools in Odisha continue to improve infrastructure, teaching quality, and accessibility. Experts attribute this trend to various state-led initiatives such as school transformation programmes, and free textbook and uniform distribution. These efforts have made education more inclusive and affordable, especially in rural pockets.
The report also notes that the average household expenditure
on education in government schools is significantly lower than in private
institutions, making them a viable option for economically weaker sections. In
Odisha, this affordability, combined with improved learning outcomes, has led
to increased trust in public schooling.
