Bhubaneswar, Sep 11: The Odisha Excise Department’s Special Enforcement Drive has entered its 10th day with remarkable results, seizing contraband worth ₹1.46 crore and arresting 136 individuals across the state.
The operation, part of a zero-tolerance policy against illicit liquor and narcotics, continues to dismantle illegal supply chains threatening public health and safety.
Officials reported the detection of 224 cases, including bootlegging, smuggling, and narcotics trafficking. Enforcement teams confiscated 11,572 bulk litres (BL) of illicitly distilled liquor, 375 BL of duty-paid liquor, and 7 litres of counterfeit foreign liquor. Additionally, 93,306 litres of wash used in illegal distillation were destroyed.
The crackdown also led to the seizure of 3,030 kilograms of Mohua flowers and 25 kilograms of bhang, commonly used in traditional liquor production. Authorities impounded 21 vehicles linked to smuggling operations, further disrupting the logistics of the illicit trade.

Narcotics enforcement was intensified with five NDPS cases registered. Officers recovered 11 kilograms of ganja and 479 grams of heroin, underscoring the department’s aggressive stance against drug trafficking.
Excise officials emphasized that the drive reflects enhanced surveillance, field intelligence, and coordination with law enforcement agencies. The department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict enforcement and ensuring that illegal activities are curbed at every level.
The ongoing operation builds on earlier successes, including
seizures worth ₹3.91 crore in the first four days of the drive. With continued
momentum, the Excise Department aims to send a strong message to offenders and
safeguard communities from the dangers of illicit substances.
