Keonjhar, Dec 4: In a dramatic incident reminiscent of Bollywood’s classic Sholay, a young man in Keonjhar attempted a dangerous stunt to win back his girlfriend.

The youth, hailing from Saharpada area, climbed a newly constructed electric tower near Judia Ghati close to Keonjhar Town police station and threatened to end his life if his girlfriend refused to speak with him.

Eyewitnesses reported that the incident unfolded on Thursday morning, drawing large crowds to the site. The young man declared that unless his girlfriend from Bansapala block’s Jatra area agreed to reconcile, he would jump from the tower.

His actions evoked memories of the famous suicide-threat scene from the 1980s film Sholay, shocking locals and raising concerns about rising emotional distress among youth.

Police and fire services rushed to the spot after receiving information. Authorities immediately contacted the girl and her family, arranging a phone call to calm the situation. After speaking with her, the youth eventually climbed down safely, averting a potential tragedy.

The police later took him into custody for questioning. Officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident and assessing whether legal action is warranted.

Residents expressed relief that the intervention prevented a fatal outcome, but also urged authorities to take steps to discourage such reckless acts.
