Nayagarh, July 21: In a disturbing incident, a young woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison at the Itamati Police Station premises in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on Monday.
The act was reportedly driven by emotional distress following allegations of sexual assault and betrayal by her lover.
According to sources, the woman had previously filed a complaint against her boyfriend, accusing him of rape and deception. The accused was arrested based on her allegations.
Tensions escalated yesterday when a heated dispute broke out between the families of both individuals, prompting police to register two separate cases.
However, the woman remained adamant about marrying her lover.

Frustrated by the lack of resolution and perceived denial of justice, the woman allegedly consumed poison in front of the police station, sources said.
Police personnel acted swiftly, rushing her to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nayagarh, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
The woman’s condition is reported to be stable, according to the attending doctor.
