Puri, Apr 30: The sacred festival of Akshaya Tritiya is celebrated with grandeur in Shreekhetra, marking the beginning of important religious rituals associated with the annual Rath Yatra. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi participated in the ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ritual at the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) farm in Bhubaneswar, symbolizing the beginning of the agricultural season.

On this auspicious occasion, two major events are taking place. The construction of the chariots for the world-famous Rath Yatra has commenced, marking the traditional beginning of preparations for the grand procession. Additionally, the revered Chandan Yatra festival has begun, during which the idols of Lord Madanmohan, Bhudevi, Sridevi, Ramakrishna, and the five Mahadevas are taken in a ceremonial water procession at Narendra Pushkarini. This sacred ritual, lasting 21 days, serves as a respite from the intense summer heat.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has meticulously planned the rituals, beginning with pre-dawn prayers and offerings, followed by sacred baths and other traditional ceremonies throughout the day. In the afternoon, special rituals like Dwadasa Yatra and Nakshatra Bandapana will take place, leading to the much-anticipated water sports event in the evening. The deities will then be ceremonially returned to the temple at night.

To ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration, tight security arrangements have been put in place. Five platoons of police force have been deployed, with additional officers assigned to oversee the festival’s security. A specialized crime prevention squad has been established, including senior police officials, inspectors, and constables, along with 58 home guards.

In a bid to maintain safety, authorities have imposed restrictions on firecracker use in and around Chandan Chakada. Strict action will be taken against violators, as per the directives issued by the Superintendent of Police. For the first time, a feedback center has been set up at Narendra Kona by Puri Police, allowing devotees to lodge complaints and share their experiences of the festival.

As the festivities unfold, Akshaya Tritiya continues to hold special religious and cultural significance in Odisha, with preparations for the grand Rath Yatra officially underway.
