Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: Odisha is set to experience another spell of rainfall over the next five days due to the active monsoon trough and the formation of a fresh low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow warnings for multiple districts, cautioning residents about thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.
On Saturday, light to moderate rainfall was reported across various parts of the state. Wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h were recorded in some regions, adding to the weather’s intensity.
The IMD has placed 20 districts under yellow alert for lightning and thunderstorm activity, while 25 districts remain under watch for potential electrical storms.

Looking ahead, heavy rainfall is expected on Sunday in districts such as Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Rayagada, prompting yellow alerts for these regions. Meteorologists have warned that the rainfall could intensify further with the development of another low-pressure system early next week.
Forecast models suggest that the new system may form over the northern Bay of Bengal, potentially triggering widespread showers and stormy conditions across coastal and interior Odisha.
