Bhubaneswar, Jul 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Odisha as a weakening low-pressure system over northwest Madhya Pradesh continues to influence the region’s weather.
The system, now a well-marked low-pressure area, is expected to bring heavy rainfall across northern and coastal Odisha over the next 24 hours.
According to the IMD’s forecast, districts including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj are likely to experience intense downpours accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning, urging residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert. Local administrations have been advised to prepare for possible waterlogging, flash floods, and disruptions in transportation and public services.

Rainfall intensity is expected to peak on Sunday and gradually decrease from Monday as the system weakens. However, isolated showers may continue in some pockets of the state. The IMD has also cautioned fishermen against venturing into the sea along the north Odisha coast until conditions improve.
This spell of rain is part of a broader monsoon pattern influenced by twin weather systems — one over northwest Madhya Pradesh and another over the Bay of Bengal. These systems have triggered widespread rainfall across Odisha since July 24, with some districts recording above-normal precipitation.
