Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Odisha is bracing for another spell of intense rainfall as a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple alerts, warning of heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and lightning across several districts over the next five days.
The monsoon trough remains active, and the influence of the upcoming low-pressure system is expected to intensify rainfall across the state.
Starting Sunday, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for three consecutive days, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph in some regions.

Orange Alert has been issued for districts including Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall and lightning strikes. Meanwhile, 21 other districts are under Yellow Alert, signalling moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.
The IMD has cautioned residents and local authorities to remain vigilant, especially in flood-prone and hilly areas. The weather department also warned of possible disruptions in transportation, power supply, and agricultural activities due to the adverse conditions.
This renewed weather activity comes at a time when Odisha is already grappling with flood-related challenges in several regions.
With the possibility of further intensification of the
system, rainfall is expected to persist until at least September 3, gradually
tapering off thereafter. Coastal and interior districts alike are likely to
experience prolonged wet conditions, making preparedness crucial.
