Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: The Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the implementation of the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, a flagship scheme aimed at ensuring social security and dignity for women, officials said on Thursday.
The MoU was signed between the Department of Women and Child
Development (WCD) and Utkalika, the state’s handloom and handicrafts enterprise
operating under the Department of Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts (HTH), in
the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida.
Under this agreement, eligible brides will receive wedding
gift supplies including sarees, bangles, anklets, bindis and other essential
items, a senior official said.

Officials further said that the scheme reflects the government’s
commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment. By integrating traditional
handloom and handicraft products into the gift package, the initiative also
seeks to promote Odisha’s artisans and local industries.

Senior officials Shubha Sharma, Principal Secretary of the
WCD Department; Monisha Banerjee, Director of WCD; Nibedita Prusti, Director of
HTH; and Mamata Nayak, Managing Director of Utkalika were, among others,
present on the occasion.
The Mukhya Mantri Kanya Vivah Yojana has been positioned as
a social support mechanism to ease the financial burden of marriage for
families, while simultaneously reinforcing the dignity of women. The latest MoU
is expected to streamline the supply of quality products and ensure timely
delivery to beneficiaries across the state.
