Bhadrak, Jul 19: Odisha Vigilance department on Saturday conducted raid on a illegal sawmill in Bhadrak’s Dhamnagar NAC Area.
Acting on reliable inputs, the officials of anti-corruption wing from Balasore and Cuttack, along with the Forest Department officials, conducted a surprise raid on the unauthorized sawmill located near Chunupada Square in Dhamnagar NAC.
During the raid, the authorities seized timber worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, and machinery & equipment over Rs 7 lakh.
The sawmill was reportedly operating without a valid license, violating forest and environmental regulations.
Vigilance officials confirmed that legal proceedings will be initiated under applicable laws.
This crackdown is part of a broader effort to curb illegal timber operations across Odisha, which pose serious threats to forest conservation and biodiversity, said a senior official.
