Keonjhar, Nov 19: Odisha Vigilance officials Wednesday arrested Keonjhar Excise Superintendent Sitarani Pattayat and Champua Excise Office ASI Bijay Kumar Mohanta for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a foreign liquor shop owner.

According to a source, Pattayat had reportedly been demanding bribes from liquor traders since taking charge as Superintendent for the last four months, allegedly to allow their businesses to run smoothly.

Unable to bear the pressure, a liquor shop owner from Champua approached the Vigilance. The team conducted a trap and caught both officials allegedly accepting the Rs 40,000 bribe.

Following the arrest, Vigilance teams launched raids at three locations linked to Pattayat and two linked to Mohanta to examine disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered by the Vigilance department, and further investigation is underway.
