Kataka, Aug 11: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday arrested Sarat Kumar Nayak, former secretary of Anandpur Service Cooperative Society (SCS) under PACS Banki in Kataka district, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of Rs 21.28 lakh in society funds.
According to Odisha Vigilance, an investigation found that Nayak had collected loan repayment amounts directly from borrowers of PACS Banki. While he recorded the actual collections in the daily transaction ledger, or Day Book, he allegedly manipulated the society's official accounting registers by deliberately recording lower collection figures.
The Vigilance agency alleged that Nayak siphoned off the difference between the actual collections and the amounts entered in the official registers, causing a financial loss of Rs 21,28,058 to PACS Banki and the government exchequer.
Case Registered
In connection with the alleged financial irregularities, Kataka Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 29, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and Sections 409 and 467 of the Indian Penal Code.
Following his arrest, Nayak was being forwarded to the court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Kataka, on Tuesday.
The investigation is underway.

Two Retired Forest Officers Convicted
In a separate case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir, convicted two retired forest officials in a bribery case and sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
The convicted officials are Pranab Kumar Mohanty, former Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Kendu Leaf, Patnagarh Division, and Chittaranjan Dehury, former Deputy Range Officer, Kendu Leaf, Ghasian South Range, Patnagarh.
The court also imposed fines on both officials.
The duo had been charge-sheeted in Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station Case No. 13 dated June 8, 2020, under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
According to the case, the officials had allegedly demanded and accepted a Rs 1.66 lakh bribe from a Range Officer for releasing funds for the repair and maintenance of Kendu Leaf godowns.
The conviction was secured by Odisha Vigilance on August 10.
