Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: In a significant crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance on Monday arrested Golap Chandra Hansdah, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Boudh district, for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The arrest follows extensive raids conducted at six locations, associated with Hansdah, across Baripada, Boudh, and Bhubaneswar.
According to the Vigilance officials, the searches revealed a staggering inventory of wealth, including a multi-storeyed building, 44 plots (43 in Baripada and one in Balasore), 1 kg of gold comprising two 50g biscuits, over 2 kg of silver, Rs 2.38 lakh in cash, and deposits exceeding Rs1.34 crore. Investigators also uncovered a diary detailing suspected benami transactions and Rs 40 lakh spent on his daughter’s medical education.

✨Hansdah, who joined government service in 1991 and currently draws a monthly salary of Rs1.08 lakh, failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the assets. The Vigilance Department has registered Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 7/2025 and will present him before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court, Baripada.
Officials suspect undervaluation of the plots and are continuing valuation assessments. The operation was led by multiple teams comprising DSPs, Inspectors, and technical experts. The case has sparked renewed calls for transparency and accountability in public service.
The investigation is ongoing, with further scrutiny expected into Hansdah’s financial records, property documents, and potential accomplices, the officials said.
