Bhubaneswar: In a decisive move to regulate the installation of beacons on vehicles, the Odisha Transport Secretary has issued a directive warning officials against arbitrary usage. The advisory, sent to various departments, underscores the need for strict compliance with authorization guidelines to ensure that beacons are only used where permitted.

With numerous vehicles across the state sporting beacons (Red Lighs) without official approval, the Transport Secretary clarified that no department has been granted indiscriminate permission for such installations. The responsibility of granting authorization lies solely with the State Transport Authority (STA).

As per the directive, officials who wish to equip their vehicles with beacons must apply to the STA and obtain a formal approval sticker. The STA will decide which vehicles qualify for beacon installation, ensuring compliance with legal norms. Additionally, multi-colored beacons used by specific officials will also require an official sticker from the STA.

Departments have been urged to adhere to the advisory to avoid unnecessary complications in enforcement.
