Key Points
Odisha to revise MSME policy to include AI and Industry 4.0 incentives.
MSMEs to receive up to 50% support for adopting new technologies.
Vision 2036 targets 50% contribution from the services sector.
Bhubaneswar, Jun 18: In a significant move to modernize its industrial landscape, Odisha is set to revise its MSME policy to promote the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Industry 4.0 technologies.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department, Hemant Sharma, announced that the state government is actively exploring ways to support both large industries and MSMEs in embracing advanced technologies.
Speaking at a recent industry forum, Sharma emphasized that while large industries are better equipped to adopt new technologies, MSMEs often face challenges in doing so. To bridge this gap, the government is offering up to 50% incentives for MSMEs and 30% for large industries that integrate AI, automation, and other Industry 4.0 tools into their operations.
Sharma acknowledged that the current Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022 lacks specific provisions for such technological incentives. He stated that the government will recommend amendments to include these measures, ensuring MSMEs are not left behind in the digital transformation wave.
The state is also actively promoting its Vision 2036 strategy, which focuses on three key pillars of economic growth: expanding the manufacturing base, prioritizing emerging sectors, and boosting the contribution of the services sector. The goal is to increase the services sector’s share in the state’s economy from 33% to 50%.
Vision 2036 also emphasizes policy reform, infrastructure development, and ease of doing business as critical enablers for Odisha’s long-term industrial growth.
