Jagannath Temple to introduce slot booking for darshan, air-conditioned Nata Mandapa, and improved facilities, ensuring safer, smoother pilgrim experience.
Puri, Apr 15: In a bid to make darshan at the Jagannath Temple more convenient for devotees, the administration is preparing to introduce a slot booking system.
Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan announced that both traditional queue-based darshan and slot-booked darshan will continue simultaneously, ensuring flexibility for devotees.
The slot booking arrangement will allow pilgrims to have darshan of Lord Jagannath at a designated time, reducing overcrowding and long waiting hours.
A separate holding area will be created for slot-booked visitors. Initially, the system will be introduced on a trial basis, following discussions with the temple administration and the managing committee.

✨Additionally, ramps for orderly queue management are set to be implemented shortly. With these measures, the temple will be able to accommodate nearly 4,500 to 5,000 devotees at a time.
The minister emphasized that multiple plans are being prepared to improve the overall darshan experience, keeping in mind the safety and convenience of devotees.
Meanwhile, devotees have expressed concerns about the intense summer heat in April. Many pointed out that the existing sheds near the four temple gates are insufficient, forcing pilgrims — especially senior citizens, women, and children — to stand in scorching conditions. Several devotees have reportedly fainted or fallen ill due to the heat.
In response, devotees have urged the administration to install additional sheds and resting facilities around the temple premises to ensure safety and comfort.
The temple administration is expected to finalize decisions
on these measures soon, aiming to balance tradition with modern facilities
while safeguarding the health and devotion of thousands of pilgrims visiting
daily.
