Bhubaneswar, Sep 4: In a landmark move to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17, the Odisha government will distribute housing sanctions to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.

Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik confirmed that the initiative aligns with the broader goal of inclusive development and housing for all.

The decision follows high-level consultations between state and central officials, ensuring that all procedural formalities will be completed by November. The housing sanctions will be issued under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which aims to provide pucca houses to economically weaker sections across rural Odisha.

According to the latest survey, over 35 lakh applications have been received, with 3 lakh submitted online. Identification of eligible beneficiaries has been carried out through mobile verification and administrative screening. The scrutiny process is underway, and final decisions will be made on time, said Minister Naik.

The initiative is expected to bring dignity and stability to thousands of families who have long awaited permanent housing. The state government’s proactive approach—especially in launching a new survey and digitizing the application process—has been praised for its transparency and efficiency.

By November, both the central and state governments aim to complete all formalities and begin the sanctioning process. This move not only celebrates the Prime Minister’s birthday with a gesture of empowerment but also reinforces Odisha’s commitment to rural development and housing equity.
