Bhubaneswar, Apr 13: In a major healthcare development, Odisha is set to welcome its first government-operated skin bank at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda announced the initiative, marking a significant step in the region’s medical infrastructure. The facility will enable the collection of skin from donors within six hours of their death, reducing reliance on existing centers in Mumbai and Bengaluru. The bank is expected to provide life-saving skin grafts, particularly benefiting burn victims in Odisha and neighboring states.
During his visit, the minister paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by garlanding his statue on the hospital premises. He also inaugurated a central research laboratory and laid the foundation stone for a multi-specialty gastroenterology block.
