Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: Odisha is set to host a vibrant celebration of its rich textile heritage with the observance of National Handloom Day 2025 and the EKTA Festival (Exhibition cum Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage), officials said on Tuesday.

 

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will inaugurate the state-level National Handloom Day on August 7 at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar. Bollywood icon Madhuri Dixit Nene will also grace the occasion, adding star appeal to the cultural festivities.

 

The announcement was made by Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta at a press conference held at the State Guest House.

 

“Our weavers are the soul of our cultural heritage. Odisha handlooms weave legacy, not just cloth,” said the Minister, highlighting the significance of the event in promoting traditional craftsmanship and empowering artisans.

From August 7 to 9, evening programs will feature Odissi and Sambalpuri folk dances, contemporary performances, fashion shows, and a laser show. The EKTA Festival will be held on August 8 and 9, focusing on knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration in the textile sector.

 

A Mega Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition will run from August 7 to 13, showcasing Odisha’s diverse weaving traditions. With over 60 stalls, a food court, and a play zone, the exhibition will host more than 1,500 weavers from across Odisha and eight other states.


Commissioner-cum-Secretary Smt. Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar, Director Premchandra Choudhary, and Additional Secretary Bikramaditya Barik were present at the press conference. Minister Samanta extended a warm invitation to the public to participate and make the celebration a grand success.
