Odisha to launch Special Intensive Revision of voter list from May 30, with BLOs conducting door-to-door surveys, Odia-language forms, and strict monitoring to ensure transparency and inclusion.

Bhubaneswar, May 25: The Odisha Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has announced that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list will begin across the state from May 30.

A state-level preparatory meeting was held virtually under the chairmanship of the CEO, with nodal officers, deputy collectors, and district information and public relations officers (DIPROs) participating.

The meeting emphasized making the upcoming SIR exercise more effective, error-free, and transparent. Officials were directed to ensure smooth registration of new voters, correction of errors, and updating of transfers. “No eligible voter should be left out during the revision process,” stressed the CEO.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door surveys to verify voter details. District officials have been instructed to prepare independent strategies to keep the process simple, transparent, and free from misinformation.

Special attention was given to countering fake news and misleading campaigns on social media. DIPROs across districts will monitor platforms closely and immediately issue clarifications to prevent confusion.

To make the process more accessible, all voter-related forms will be available in Odia, ensuring rural citizens can easily understand and participate. Awareness campaigns will be conducted to inform people about the door-to-door verification and encourage them to provide accurate details.

The toll-free Election Helpline number — 1950 — will be widely promoted, enabling citizens to access voter list information and even book calls to interact with their Booth Level Officers.

Deputy CEO Laxmiprasad Sahu advised district media cells and social media teams to intensify outreach through local media and digital platforms.

District election officials and administration have been asked to maintain close coordination, while online application processes will be accelerated to make voter registration more efficient.

With these measures, the Election Commission aims to ensure a clean, inclusive, and updated voter list ahead of upcoming electoral exercises in Odisha.
