Odisha Tightens Security Amid Drone Concerns

Key Points
Odisha ramps up security measures, cancels official leaves, and monitors drone activity to prevent potential threats.
Bhubaneswar, May 10: In response to growing security concerns, Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari, has assured citizens that the state is taking proactive measures to monitor drone activity and enhance security across key locations.
Pujari emphasised that there is no immediate threat in Odisha, but the government remains vigilant. Authorities are closely tracking where, why, and under what circumstances drones are flying, ensuring that no unauthorized aerial activity compromises security.
As part of precautionary steps, the government has cancelled leaves for senior officials, directing them to remain on duty and respond swiftly to any emerging situations. Other officials may also see their leaves revoked depending on future developments.
Security has been heightened at central government establishments across Odisha, including defence facilities, strategic infrastructure, and religious sites. The Chandipur missile testing range, a critical defence installation, now has enhanced security protocols. Similarly, Hirakud Dam, a vital water resource, is under strict surveillance, with entry restrictions imposed.
Religious sites such as Puri’s Jagannath Temple and Bhubaneswar’s Lingaraj Temple are also under tight security, ensuring the safety of devotees and visitors. Additionally, ammunition factories in Balangir and Koraput have received reinforced security measures to prevent any potential threats.
Odisha Police is actively monitoring individuals with past links to terrorist activities, ensuring that their movements do not pose a risk. Meanwhile, the Indian Navy has intensified patrolling along coastal areas, keeping a close watch on maritime security.
In response to drone-related concerns, no-fly zones have been declared in certain areas, restricting unauthorized drone operations. These measures aim to prevent any security breaches and maintain public safety.
As Odisha continues to strengthen its security framework, Minister Pujari has urged citizens to remain calm and assured them that the government is fully prepared to handle any situation.
