Bhubaneswar, July 24: As many as ten Sarpanches and their supporters from Lakhanpur block in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, leaving the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The induction ceremony was held at the BJP State headquarters here in the presence of Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Urban Development Minister Krushnachandra Mahapatra, Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena and several other senior leaders of the party.
The Ministers welcomed the new members with party symbols and expressed confidence that their inclusion would accelerate development in western Odisha, particularly in Brajarajnagar Assembly constituency.

Speaking at the event, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari stated, “The decision of these Sarpanches to join BJP reflects the growing trust in our governance model. Their experience and commitment to local development will strengthen our efforts to uplift rural Odisha.”
The Minister also said that more urban representatives are expected to join the BJP in the coming days, signaling a broader political shift in the state.
