Bhadrak, May 7: In a tragic incident, a young student allegedly committed suicide following disappointment over his performance in the NEET examination. The deceased has been identified as Jyoti Prakash Barik.

Jyoti, a resident of Nundara village under Tihidi police station limits, was living with his parents in a rented house in Bhadrak town. His father, Giridhari Barik, has been running a tea stall for years to support the family, while his mother also helped at the shop.

Jyoti had appeared for the NEET exam this year, but reportedly became distressed after realizing he had not performed well.

On Wednesday, when both parents were away at the tea stall, Jyoti was alone at home. Taking advantage of the solitude, he allegedly tied a rope to the ceiling fan and ended his life.

When his parents returned, they were devastated to find him hanging. He was immediately rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Jyoti’s untimely death has cast a pall of gloom over the village.

Couple Found Hanging

In another shocking incident, locals discovered the bodies of a young couple hanging from a banyan tree along the Gulunda-Silati road under Binika police station limits in Sonepur district.

The sight of the two lifeless bodies stunned villagers, who immediately informed the police. At the base of the tree, a bag and a pair of slippers were found, adding to suspicions of suicide.

Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the deceased. Police teams reached the spot and began investigation, while the area remains tense.
