Bhubaneswar, Mar 19: The Special Crime Unit has arrested a minor from the Nayapalli area Wednesday with 448 grams of brown sugar.
The main accused, Shaikh Sahid, is currently absconding, and the police are actively searching for him in Balasore, where he reportedly resides.
In another case, Maitri Vihar police have seized 270 grams of brown sugar and arrested five individuals, including the prime accused, Muna Sethi, who has 18 criminal cases against him.
The combined value of the seized brown sugar in these two cases is estimated at Rs 72 lakh.
S Dev Dutta Singh, Police Commissioner, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, has stated that strict action will be taken against those who involve minors or students in the brown sugar trade.
“Investigations are being coordinated with police from other districts and, if necessary, assistance will be sought from police outside the state,” informed the twin city Police Commissioner.
