Viksit Odisha / Odisha Showcases Semiconductor Vision at Semicon India 2026

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: Odisha has stepped firmly onto the national stage as a serious contender in India’s semiconductor growth story, unveiling ambitious projects, global partnerships, and research initiatives at Semicon India 2026.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, in the presence of Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The pavilion highlighted the state’s semiconductor proposition — showcasing policy incentives, infrastructure, and investment opportunities — and positioned Odisha as an emerging hub for chip manufacturing, advanced packaging, and electronics innovation.

National Mission Projects

Under the Government of India’s India Semiconductor Mission, Odisha has secured two of the 12 approved projects. SiCSem Pvt Ltd is establishing the country’s first Silicon Carbide Semiconductor and Advanced Packaging Facility, while 3D Glass Solutions is setting up a Glass Substrate Packaging Facility for AI and high-performance computing.

State-Approved Investments

The Odisha government has cleared five semiconductor projects worth nearly Rs11,000 crore, expected to generate over 4,500 direct jobs and 16,000 indirect jobs. Companies such as RIR Power Electronics, Shankh Technology, and ASP Semiconductor have already committed investments. RIR’s Silicon Carbide Wafer Manufacturing Unit in Bhubaneswar is nearing completion and will begin production soon.

Global Collaboration

A landmark MoU between Intel and 3D Glass Solutions promises investments of around Rs30,550 crore and over 1,800 jobs, underscoring Odisha’s ability to attract global semiconductor leaders.

Research & Innovation Push

At IIT Bhubaneswar, a Rs452 crore project has been approved to establish the National Industry Co-Development Hub on Integrated Power Electronics. The state government will contribute Rs125 crore, aiming to foster a Centre of Excellence in research, innovation, and advanced training.

Future Outlook

Majhi emphasised Odisha’s vision of building a “Mind Economy” alongside its Mine Economy, with five semiconductor units — including two ISM-approved — forming the backbone of a technology-led, future-ready economy. Odisha is also preparing to leverage incentives under the Centre’s Semiconductor 2.0 scheme, which offers Rs1.27 lakh crore in support.

With global partnerships, state-backed projects, and research hubs, Odisha is steadily positioning itself as a frontrunner in India’s semiconductor growth story.
