Khallikote (Ganjam), Apr 2: In a shocking turn of events, a 32-year-old man was found dead Wednesday in a village pond in Bharasa under Khallikote police limits.

The deceased, identified as Prabhat Mahanti alias Silu, had gone missing since Tuesday morning after heading to a nearby pond to take a bath but never returned home.

According to his family, Prabhat's absence raised doubts, prompting a frantic search that eventually involved the fire department.

However, initial rescue attempts proved unsuccessful. The mystery deepened until villagers spotted his body floating in the pond, Wednesday. Authorities were promptly notified, and police soon arrived at the scene to recover the body.

Officials have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The sudden demise has left the community mourning, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Police are continuing their investigation while waiting for autopsy results to provide further insights into what may have led to the unfortunate incident.
