Odisha Sets All-Time Record In Farmer Registration For Paddy Procurement

Key Points

Odisha registers 18.5 lakh+ farmers, surpassing last year’s Kharif season figures.

Self-declaration system replaces eKYC, increasing accessibility and participation.

Registration deadline ends tonight at midnight, with numbers still climbing.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Odisha has broken previous records in farmer registration for paddy procurement in the 2025-26 kharif marketing season.

As of today, a staggering 18,50,983 farmers have registered under the state’s agricultural scheme, surpassing last year’s figure of 17,50,462, informed Minister for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra on Monday.

As the registration window closes today at midnight, it is expected that the numbers will certainly rise even further.

The Minister attributes the surge to improved accessibility and reforms in the registration process. Initially, the State government introduced eKYC to eliminate middlemen and ensure transparency. However, due to technical challenges, the system was later supplemented with a self-declaration mechanism, which significantly boosted participation.

This record-breaking registration is a promising sign for Odisha’s agricultural sector, especially as the state gears up for the Kharif crop cycle. The streamlined process has empowered farmers to enroll independently, ensuring that more cultivators can benefit from government schemes, subsidies, and procurement programs.

The final tally will be confirmed post-deadline, but the current figures already mark a new high in Odisha’s agricultural outreach. The success of this initiative reflects the State’s commitment to inclusive growth and farmer welfare.
