Bhubaneswar, Jun 1: Odisha has recorded an exceptionally high amount of pre-monsoon rainfall this year, marking a significant deviation from normal precipitation levels.
Between March 1 and May 31, the state experienced 238.6 mm of rainfall, which is 86% more than the typical 128.6 mm observed during this period.
The increased rainfall has affected various regions differently, with 21 districts witnessing excessive rainfall, defined as 60% or more above normal levels.
Meanwhile, 7 districts experienced moderate rainfall, ranging between 20% and 59% above normal, and only two districts reported rainfall that matched standard seasonal expectations.
Experts suggest that this heightened pre-monsoon activity could indicate an earlier and more intense arrival of the monsoon season. Agricultural planners and disaster management teams are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring preparedness for potential flooding and crop impact.
The state government has urged residents to remain alert as unpredictable weather patterns continue to develop. Authorities are expected to enhance drainage systems and infrastructure in vulnerable areas to prevent waterlogging and related disruptions.
