Odisha Seeks Exclusive Rights Over Jagannath Temple Terms and Logo

Key Points

Odisha is taking significant steps to protect the cultural and spiritual identity of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri by patenting words and logos associated with the revered shrine.

Bhubaneswar, May 26: Odisha is taking significant steps to protect the cultural and spiritual identity of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri by patenting words and logos associated with the revered shrine.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has approved a proposal to secure exclusive rights over terms such as Mahaprasad, Srimandir, Shree Jagannath Dham, Shreekshetra, and Purushottam Dham, ensuring their sanctity is preserved.

This move comes amid growing concerns over the unauthorized use of these terms, particularly following the naming dispute with West Bengal, where a temple in Digha was named "Jagannath Dham." Odisha officials argue that such usage goes against established Hindu traditions and scriptures.

The Jagannath Temple Administration has stated that the patenting process will help prevent commercial misuse and ensure that only legitimate entities use these sacred terms in connection with the temple.

Meanwhile, preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra, scheduled for June 27, are in full swing. The committee has finalized plans to form a Pahandi Dala to facilitate the procession of the deities and ensure smooth execution of all rituals. With these developments, Odisha is taking strong steps to safeguard the religious significance of the Jagannath Temple while gearing up for one of its most important annual festivals.
