Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: The Odisha government has introduced a new welfare initiative titled ‘Sweekruti’, aimed at ensuring social justice, empowerment, and self-reliance for the transgender community.
The scheme seeks to create an enabling environment by offering multiple forms of support, including:
- Incentives for parents to encourage inclusion of transgender children in mainstream society.
- Scholarships for pre-matric and post-matric education.
- Skill development and entrepreneurship training, pre-employment coaching, and self-employment kits.

✨- Access to essential healthcare, group insurance, legal aid, and counseling services.
Applicants must register on the National Transgender Portal to avail benefits.
Under the scheme, parents of transgender children up to 18 years of age will receive Rs 1,500 per month for their upbringing. In case of parental death, a legal guardian can claim the support by submitting guardianship proof.
Additionally, the government plans to establish exclusive
hostels in colleges and universities for transgender students. They will also
receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 to support their education, subject to
application through the Sweekruti portal.

Officials said the scheme is designed to integrate transgender individuals into the mainstream while safeguarding their rights and dignity.
